Jeff Buhler, who wrote the 2019 adaptation of Stephen King’s Pet Sematary, is also writing a prequel film that’s headed for Paramount+, and some more casting news has come out of the project this week.
Natalie Alyn Lind (Tell Me a Story), Jack Mulhern (Mare of Easttown), Forrest Goodluck (Blood Quantum), and Isabella Star LaBlanc have been cast in the film, which will also star Jackson White (Mrs. Fletcher) as a young Jud Crandall. Lindsey Beer will direct.
No plot details have been revealed just yet about this new instalment in the franchise, though we do know that the Creeds weren’t the first people to ever bury someone in that sour ground. In King’s 1983 novel, Crandall tells Louis Creed the story of Timmy Baterman, a fallen WWII soldier who came back changed after his grief-stricken father buried him in the ancient burial ground. The resurrected Timmy would terrorise the townspeople, whispering secrets he had no earthly way of knowing, before his father finally killed him again and set their house ablaze.
Will this new film tell that story or a new one altogether? Only time will tell. But with production slated to begin this summer, we’re sure more details will be unearthed soon.
