PARKER POSEY FLOATS A RETURN TO SCREAM

Posted on: April 28th, 2023

Scream is without doubt one of the hottest horror properties of the moment. With an outstanding box-office haul of $168.5 million, the series’ sixth instalment has outperformed all expectations to become the most successful entry in the franchise. Of course, such success and media attention doesn’t escape franchise alumni, especially not Scream 3 star Parker Posey.

Speaking during the press tour for Ari Astor’s Beau is Afraid, Posey related a story from weeks prior, when current Scream filmmakers Radio Silence called in to speak to her during a radio interview.

“Well, I did an interview for WNYC Radio, like three weeks ago, for the play I was doing. And they said, ‘Well, there’s some people here that want to say hi.’ And it was the ‘Scream’ team. And I actually pitched, ‘Can I just be in another dimension and come back? And continue to…’ I hope so. I would love to do that.”

Although Posey’s character, Jennifer Jolie was killed just prior to Scream 3’s climax, that is hardly an obstacle. The past two Scream sequels helmed by Radio Silence have resurrected faces from the past in various forms. Most notably, actor Skeet Ulrich reprised his role as the long-dead Billy Loomis in the form of visions suffered by his illegitimate daughter Sam. Furthermore, Radio Silence brought back Hayden Panettiere’s Kirby Reed, after it was long-feared she’d died from a brutal gut stab in Scream 4.

Jennifer Jolie is most definitely a fan favourite due to Posey’s quirky and off-the-wall portrayal of a ditsy actress and her buddy-cop hijinks with Courteney Cox’s Gale Weathers. Given that Jolie plays Gale in the fictional Stab universe, it is entirely possible Posey could return to the series in a clip from one of those in-universe movies we haven’t seen. Only time will tell if Posey has planted a seed that Radio Silence will nurture.
