It was the role that brought Sarah Michelle Gellar back to the horror genre. However, despite all the fanfare, we can confirm that Paramount+ have cancelled Wolf Pack after only one season.
The show followed two young teenagers wounded by a vicious creature during a California wildfire. As they get drawn into a dark world of full moons and sinister desires, the teens find others like themselves, and find out the secret they all share.
Despite the joy at Gellar’s return to the genre, Wolf Pack received mixed to negative reviews from critics. Many noted that Gellar’s performance as arson investigator Kristin Ramsay was one of the only bright spots in the series.
However, even at this, some criticised Wolf Pack for relegating Gellar to a supporting role, despite using her almost exclusively to market the series.
Performing moderately well in terms of audience viewership, it was expected Paramount would give Wolf Pack at least one more season to see if things picked up.
However, a reliable source tells us the following:
“Last summer’s dual Hollywood strikes were the final nail in Wolf Pack‘s coffin. According to sources, a potential second season would not have been ready for nearly two years after the conclusion of Season 1.”
So, we have yet another casualty of the 2023 Hollywood Strike action, what a shame.
However, perhaps now that Sarah Michelle Gellar has gotten her feet wet in the genre once more, she’ll be tempted to pursue more horror-based roles?
We hope so!
