OZ PERKINS’ STEPHEN KING ADAPTION “THE MONKEY” WRAPS FILMING AND REVEALS CAST

Posted on: April 9th, 2024

Oz Perkins is currently making a killer rise in the horror genre, and it’s all set to continue in a big way.

Initially making his feature debut with 2020’s Gretal & Hansel, Perkins was lauded for his unique visual style, perfectly suited to the genre.

Whilst he continues post-production on the eagerly anticipated NEON flick Longlegs, we’ve received word that what just might be his biggest project yet has wrapped filming.

As we reported some months back, Perkins was chosen to adapt The Monkey. From a short story by Stephen King, the tale details two brothers finding their father’s favourite toy. Although the cymbal-clapping monkey seems harmless, upon its discovery, a mysterious string of deaths begin.

Full of cinematic potential, the project has been cloaked in secrecy for some time. However, as filming concludes, we finally have a cast reveal!

Divergent and The White Lotus star Theo James will head the cast as twin brothers Hal and Bill, with Sweet Tooth actor Christian Convery playing younger versions of both. Furthermore, She-Hulk and Orphan Black actress Tatiana Maslany will co-headline the film.

Elijah Wood and Rohan Campbell are also aboard the project in undisclosed roles. The Monkey will mark Campbell’s first major role since winning high praise in 2022’s divisive Halloween Ends.

Currently without a release date or a distributor, The Monkey is being produced under the eye of James Wan and his Atomic Monster label.

We have little doubt that Perkins paired with King is a winning formula, especially with such a cast!

If you’re curious, King’s short story is available in the short story/novella anthology Skeleton Crew.
