ORIGINAL “BLAIR WITCH” CAST AND CREW AGREE TO REBOOT DEAL

Posted on: May 9th, 2026

As we’ve been reporting over the past year, Blumhouse and Lionsgate have been prepping a reboot of the iconic Blair Witch property.

Along with this announcement came a blaze of controversy, as the stars of 1999’s The Blair Witch Project railed against the reboot. Stars Heather Donahue, Michael C. Williams, and Joshua Leonard penned an open letter to Lionsgate and Blumhouse appealing for compensation.

Despite The Blair Witch Project and its subsequent media franchise grossing over $400 million, the actors had received no residual payment for carrying the project. In a series of emotional interviews, the cast lamented how the film had done more harm than good to their lives, and pleaded for a deserved cut.

Now, it seems a deal has been struck. Williams and Leonard have boarded the reboot as executive producers, alongside original creators Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez.

However, it appears Heather Donahue is still not attached, but it’s possible the deal is still being finalised.

As executive producers, it is understood that Williams, Leonard, Myrick, and Sanchez will receive a cut of the film’s final profit.

The currently untitled Blair Witch reboot will come to us from Portrait of God filmmaker Dylan Clark. Clark is said to be currently re-writing the project’s original script penned by Chris Devlin.

James Wan will produce through his Atomic Monster label, whilst Jason Blum oversees for Blumhouse Productions.

Production on the reboot is expected to begin this October, with the project allegedly budgeted in the $10 million range.

We’ll stay on this story and bring you any further Blair Witch updates as soon as we can.
