I’d adore seeing Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy reprising their roles as Hannibal Lecter and Will Graham in a brand new season of Hannibal, but when can we start properly discussing this possibility? According to the show’s creator Bryan Fuller, next year. In an interview with Collider he said, “Two years after the last airing of the show, we can investigate our options. August 2017 is when we can actually start talking about it. That’s when we would have to see what the rights are for the character and for the story, and see who’s interested and how we get it done. I have the story, and the cast is excited for the story, so we’re ready to go if somebody wants to go.”
Both Fuller and the cast have consistently stated that they’d love to continue with the show, but they need a platform and that’s where the problem arises. It was a massive shame when Netflix and Amazon showed no interest in picking up the show, but who knows what could happen next summer? It would be a fantastic win for both horror and quality programming if Hannibal were to return, so our fingers will remain tightly crossed.
