That’s what Blumhouse and Lionsgate ponder in the final trailer for their upcoming collaboration Imaginary.
Jeff Wadlow returns to the supernatural horror sub-genre, following 2018’s Truth of Dare, with this suitably creepy offering.
Positioning a child’s imaginary friend as an entity brought to life by sheer will, Imaginary warns the viewer that what you create, you create forever. Our antagonist here is a shadowy entity that the trailer reveals was once a child’s best friend. What happens when that child grows up and forgets their imaginary pal? Well, they get angry, of course… And this former friend has a score to settle.
Starring DeWanda Wiess and Betty Buckley, Imaginary seems en vogue with Blumhouse’s brand of supernatural terror.
Evoking similar vibes to the likes of Five Nights at Freddy’s and Lights Out, it’ll be interesting to see how this one fares at the box-office.
Imaginary will haunt screens on March 8th 2024. We will see if this one strikes a chord with audiences, or if it was better left in the imagination.
