HBO has unleashed a brand new trailer for Lovecraft Country—and this one makes it clear where the horror series gets its name.
From showrunner Misha Green, Lovecraft Country follows Atticus Freeman (Jonathan Majors), his friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), and his Uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) as they embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America in search of Atticus’ missing father. This begins a struggle to survive both the racist terrors of white America and terrifying monsters that could be ripped from the pages of an H.P. Lovecraft paperback.
The series, which is based on Matt Ruff’s 2016 novel of the same name, is executive produced by Green, J.J. Abrams, Jordan Peele, Bill Carraro, Yann Demange, Daniel Sackheim, and David Knoller. The cast also includes Michael Kenneth Williams, Aunjanue Ellis, and Abbey Lee.
Lovecraft Country premieres on August 16th. Watch the new trailer below—and keep your eyes peeled for the appearance of a monster that might just be Cthulhu itself!
