New Line has confirmed an unsurprising third addition to The Conjuring universe that further includes spin-off Annabelle and the upcoming Annabelle: Creation, The Nun and The Crooked Man.
It’s an ever-expanding world that is showing no signs of slowing down and it’s no wonder, because The Conjuring holds the record for the highest opening weekend for a non-sequel or remake horror film, scoring a massive $41.8m at the box office in 2013.
There is no confirmation of who is to direct the film, but it’s not going to be James Wan. Instead, he will be sitting in the producer’s chair with Atomic Monster and Peter Safran. David Leslie Johnson returns to write the script after previously writing The Conjuring 2. He has also worked on the scripts for Orphan, Red Riding Hood and episodes of The Walking Dead.
Although no story details have yet been unveiled, do expect The Conjuring 3 to be based on another one of Ed and Lorraine Warren’s real life paranormal case studies.
