The countdown is on to the release of Netflix’s highly anticipated Fear Street: Prom Queen.
The fourth instalment of the slasher series, based on R.L. Stine’s young adult novels, is set to start streaming tomorrow, May 23rd.
We’ve already had a plethora of promo images, posters, and a wonderfully eighties trailer. However, Netflix aren’t through with their impressive promotional campaign just yet.
Now, we have two brand-new posters, paying tribute to the most iconic prom massacres in cinema history.
The first, a loving tribute to 1976’s Carrie, dares the viewer: “If you’re hungry for horror, come to Shadyside’s Senior Prom!” Accompanying the invitation are two images of our glamorous Prom Queen… Except she’s covered in blood in one, sound familiar?
Next, Netflix have opted to lovingly ape 1980’s Prom Night. In an almost exact copy of the slasher’s original poster, Prom Queen’s killer is seen in close-up, brandishing their weapon to the audience. A tagline advises us: “Doors at Eight, Slaughter at Midnight!”
A fantastic final piece of promotion, the new posters only further the sense that Prom Queen is a loving tribute to horror’s glory days.
Netflix describes the movie as follows in an official logline:
“Welcome back to Shadyside. In this next instalment of the blood-soaked Fear Street franchise, prom season at Shadyside High is underway, and the school’s wolfpack of It Girls is busy with its usual sweet and vicious campaigns for the crown. But when a gutsy outsider is unexpectedly nominated to the court, and the other girls start mysteriously disappearing, the class of ’88 is suddenly in for one hell of a prom night.”
Matt Palmer, director of the first two Fear Street adaptions, will return for the fourth instalment, working from a script he co-wrote with Donald McLeary.
Fear Street: Prom Queen stars veteran actors such as The Conjuring’s Lili Taylor, American Pie’s Chris Klein, and Katherine Waterston of Alien: Covenant. They will be joined by a slew of up-and-coming actors including Ella Rubin, David Iacono, and India Fowler.
