It’s taken a while, but we finally have an official update on Scream 7.
The good news is, it comes from Neve Campbell herself… The bad news? It’s another delay in the project’s lengthy and storied pre-production process.
Speaking recently, Campbell confirmed that the seventh Scream instalment will begin filming in December 2024, saying the following:
“I’m very, very happy it’s happening. We were supposed to start in September, but we’re going to start in December now because of some scheduling stuff with Kevin and myself and having that all aligned. And actually, I think it’s a good thing, because we’re going to be able to have the time to get it really right. So I’m very excited about it.”
As Campbell stated, the project was expected to go before cameras in September 2024, however, it appears Kevin Williamson’s commitments to his Netflix drama On the Waterfront forced the delay.
Whilst the Sidney Prescott actress sounds very positive about Scream 7, the continual delays and lack of any solid updates have fans worried.
A trusted source tells us that Spyglass Media are having trouble gathering a solid cast for the project. This stems from actors being reluctant to sign-on to a film that previously had a high-profile dismissal.
Of course, we’re speaking of actress Melissa Barrera, who was fired from Scream 7 in November 2023, igniting a storm of backlash against the studio and project. Our source further elaborates that discussions of putting Scream 7 on ice have also taken place.
Whilst this is all rather worrying, all we can do is wait and see how things shake out. Campbell and Williamson sound enthusiastic and hopeful about Scream 7, whilst Courteney Cox is said to be undergoing “intensive training” ahead of her return as Gale Weathers.
So, for the moment, we shall assume the project is still very much active, and will keep a vigilant eye out for further updates.
