Earlier this year, director Mike Flanagan and long-time producing partner Trevor Macy signed a multi-year deal with Netflix. Following the success of Gerald’s Game and The Haunting of Hill House, we’ve been eager to see what Flanagan would create next for the streaming service, and now we know—Netflix has ordered a new horror series called Midnight Mass.
In addition to directing the seven-episode series, Flanagan will serve as an executive producer alongside Macy. The plot will centre around an isolated island community that’s faced with miraculous events and troubling omens in the wake of a charismatic young priest’s arrival.
Flanagan is currently working on The Haunting of Hill House’s second season, The Haunting of Bly Manor, which is slated to begin filming in September.
