NEON are seemingly unstoppable at the moment. With Osgood Perkins’ Longlegs grossing over $100 million worldwide, Immaculate gathering a slew of praise, and a Stephen King adaption in the works… what more could the company want?
Well, how about a slasher movie?
Word reaches us that NEON will next distribute Hell of a Summer; a slasher horror-comedy directed by Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard.
Marking the actor’s feature directing debut, Wolfhard co-directed alongside Billy Bryk, after both appeared in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Wolfhard and Bryk also co-authored the script, as well as serving as producers and part financing the project. Ozark and Arrested Development star Jason Bateman also produced through his Aggregate Films banner.
Described as a movie about the horrors of transitioning into adulthood, Hell of a Summer will also star Fear Street’s Fred Hechinger, Mad About You actress Abby Quinn, and D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Ta, best known for FX’s series Reservation Dogs.
Hell of a Summer had its first screening at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10th 2023, and was warmly received by critics.
Expected to release theatrically in 2025, an exact date for Hell of a Summer has not yet been issued. We’ll let you know as soon as that changes!
