Are we on the cusp of the birth of a new slasher icon? Could Frendo the Clown sit alongside Art and John Carver as the latest icon in this modern slasher movie resurgence?

Although flying relatively under the radar, Clown in a Cornfield will be Sony Pictures next original slasher offering, after the studio announced it was making horror “a high priority.”
The film is an adaption of Adam Cesare’s slasher novel of the same name, coming to us from Tucker and Dale Vs Evil director Eli Craig.
The novel details the tiny town of Kettle Springs, a place that once bustled with business from the Baypen Corn Syrup Factory. The company’s iconic mascot Frendo the Clown made the town wealthy beyond measure… and they’re desperate to regain that success. However, when Frendo returns to Kettle Springs, he’s no longer a friendly mascot, he’s armed, dangerous, and has a group of local teens in his sights.
Shortly after its publication, it was announced Clown in a Cornfield had been acquired by Sony Pictures and would be coming to the big screen. However, things have operated very quietly since this announcement.
Now, we have some exciting news! Clown in a Cornfield will be slashing its way onto the big screen very soon, with the slasher receiving an “R” rating from the MPA. Said to contain “Bloody horror violence, language throughout and teen drinking,” it sounds like the perfect teen slasher concoction.
Clown in a Cornfield will star Shazam’s Carson McCormac, and television regulars Katie Douglas and Aaron Abrams in the lead roles. A release date for the project has not been issued, however, we expect one very soon, so watch this space.
