In 2018’s Searching, a father broke into his missing daughter’s laptop in a desperate bid to locate her. The sequel, Missing, is releasing next year, and the trailer reveals that this time, it’s the parent who has vanished into thin air.
Storm Reid (The Invisible Man) leads the cast of Missing, starring alongside Nia Long (47 Meters Down: Uncaged), Joaquim de Almeida (Warrior Nun), Ken Leung (Old), Amy Landecker (Doctor Strange), Daniel Henney (The Wheel of Time), Megan Suri (Atypical), and Tim Griffin (The Gift). Here’s the official synopsis:
“When her mother (Long) disappears while on vacation in Colombia with her new boyfriend, June’s (Reid) search for answers is hindered by international red tape. Stuck thousands of miles away in Los Angeles, June creatively uses all the latest technology at her fingertips to try and find her before it’s too late.
“But as she digs deeper, her digital sleuthing raises more questions than answers… and when June unravels secrets about her mom, she discovers that she never really knew her at all.”
Missing is the latest film to utilise the “Screenlife” format, where we watch the events unfold via a character’s phone or computer screen. Will Merrick and Nick Johnson wrote and directed the movie, which was based on a story by Sev Ohanian and Aneesh Chaganty.
Sony is bringing Missing to theatres on January 20th, 2023. Check out the mysterious trailer below.
