Recently, we brought you the news that prolific genre filmmaker Mike Flanagan was set to bring us a fresh adaption of Stephen King’s novella The Mist.
As is well known, the property was previously adapted in 2007 by Frank Darabont to great success. Following that, The Mist became a short-lived television series on Spike in 2017, only lasting one season.
Now that we know Flanagan is set to undertake his fifth Stephen King adaption, fans are curious as to what we can expect.
Well, now we’ve got our first hint of what Flanagan has in store, as the filmmaker has answered fans questions on the BlueSky platform. When asked if his vision was going to be a straight-forward remake of the 2007 version, Flanagan was very clear, stating:
“The Mist is going to be great. If there wasn’t an excellent answer to why, I wouldn’t do it.” I love Darabont’s film, and there’s zero point in remaking it. Which is why I’m going in a different direction.”
Doubling down, Flanagan further said:
“This isn’t a retread. The differences start page 1.”
So, Flanagan will be reinterpreting the material once again, bringing his winning formula to another King property. What will we see this time around? We’re looking forward to finding out!
