An unspoken rule seems to be in the making; if you want a really good Stephen King adaption, bring in Mike Flanagan!
The writer-director has helmed two critically lauded King adaptions thus far in Doctor Sleep and Gerald’s Game, and we’re delighted to hear his third is shaping up nicely with a killer cast announced.
The Life of Chuck comes from King’s most recent novella, If It Bleeds, which comprises of the tales Mr. Harrigan’s Phone, The Life of Chuck, and If it Bleeds.
The middle tale details three instances from the life of Charles “Chuck” Krantz, beginning with his death and ending with his time growing up in a haunted house.
As the Flanagan adaption is currently halted due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, very little was known until the recent cast announcements. But boy, have some of those gotten us excited.
First and foremost, Scream Queen and Flanagan collaborator Heather Langenkamp is aboard the project! Langenkamp roared back to the mainstream when she co-starred in Flanagan’s Netflix series The Midnight Club, and this resurgence looks set to continue.
More horror royalty joins Langenkamp as Scream’s Matthew Lillard also has a role, lending the perfect follow-up genre project to his turn in Five Nights at Freddy’s.
In the lead as Chuck, we have Loki star Tom Hiddleston, starring alongside the legendary Mark Hamill as Albie.
Of course, we also have the reliable roster of Flanagan’s past collaborators including Karen Gillan, Michael Trucco, Molly Quinn, Jacob Tremblay, Carl Lumbly, and Kate Siegel.
Hopefully Flanagan continues his trend as being one of the most reliable sources when it comes to adapting Stephen King, because this looks ever-so promising!
There is no release date for The Life of Chuck at present due to the ongoing strike action, but we’ll let you know as soon as that changes.
