In the horror circle, Mia Goth seems to be the name that’s on everyone’s lips right now. After earning high critical praise for her starring turns in X and Pearl, Goth immediately moved on to Brandon Cronenberg’s Infinity Pool. Now it seems the actress is furthering her scream queen credentials with the announcement that she is aboard Marvel’s reboot of Blade.
Blade first appeared in print in 1973 and told the story of a vampire using his powers for good and taking out other creatures of the night. A film adaption came along in 1998, starring Wesley Snipes and becoming Marvel’s first sizeable hit after a rough period. Two more films with Snipes followed before the series was put on hiatus. Now, in the age of Marvel’s bombastic blockbusters, the character is to make a comeback.
Little is known about the project plot-wise, but besides Goth, there is some considerable talent involved. Oscar winner Mahershala Ali will take on the titular role, the actor is known to audiences for a slew of notable projects, including Moonlight, True Detective and The Hunger Games.
Goth and Ali will work from a script penned by When They See Us scribe Michael Starrbury and will be under the direction of Yann Demange, known for the hard-hitting conflict drama ’71.
Despite the lack of plot information, Blade does have a release date, planning to take a bite out of audiences September 6th 2024. Undoubtedly more developments will soon surface, and we will bring them to you as they do.
