Since the beginning of his career, Guillermo del Toro has expressed a strong desire to craft his own adaption of Mary Shelley’s seminal classic Frankenstein. Now it appears his dream project is coming to pass with sources claiming the filmmaker has brokered a deal with Netflix and has some rather high-profile names attached.
Moon Knight star Oscar Isaac is the first name being floated, so too is former Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield. It is unknown what roles the actors are attached to, but it is said both are “in talks” and very excited by the project.
Perhaps most exciting to horror fans is del Toro’s inclusion of actress Mia Goth. Goth is hot property at the moment due to her starring turns in Ti West’s X and Pearl as well as Brandon Cronenberg’s Infinity Pool. Becoming quite the Scream Queen, it seems Goth wants to further her genre clout with this adaption of the literary classic.
Not much else is known about the project as reps for all actors and a spokesperson for Netflix declined to comment on the claims. Given del Toro’s storied history of producing surreal and elaborate works, one can only imagine what he’ll bring to Frankenstein.
Already with the makings of an interesting ensemble cast, this is definitely a project we will watch and keep you posted on. Hopefully more equally exciting news emerges soon as the project comes together. Watch this space!
