MELISSA BARRERA EXPRESSES INTEREST IN “SCARY MOVIE” REBOOT FOLLOWING “SCREAM” FIRING

Posted on: April 30th, 2024

With the announcement of s sixth instalment of the Scary Movie franchise in development, speculation immediately turned to potential cast members.

We’re guilty of this ourselves, having received word that an unspecified legacy cast member is “attached.”

However, there is one person putting her name forward that would be genius casting if it were to come to pass!

Actress Melissa Barrera spoke of hearing that the series was due a reboot whilst promoting her upcoming horror flick Abigail, saying:
“I always loved those movies. When I saw it announced, I was like, ‘Oh, that would be fun. That would be so fun to do.’”

Melissa Barrera for Scary Movie 6? Can we make this happen? As has been widely reported, Barrera was fired from the upcoming Scream 7 last November following controversial social media posts. The project quickly derailed, also losing Jenna Ortega and director Christopher Landon.

Despite widespread fan outcry, and several meetings with studio executives, it’s become apparent Barrera will not be rehired. Scream 7 has since been retooled as a vehicle for series star Neve Campbell, with creator Kevin Williamson directing.

However, given that 2000’s Scary Movie rose to prominence parodying Scream… it would be a genius move to cast Barrera. Fans are on-board, as the actress’ brief quote as spurred a flurry of excitement.

Is this possible? Although we’d love to hope so, Scary Movie 6 will also be associated with Paramount Pictures, alongside Scream 7, so casting Barrera may be something the studio is unwilling to do.

Needless to say, we’ll be eagerly watching to see if anything comes of this.
