The aliens have landed and they are literally taking control of earth. They have invaded and infected, thrust us in to darkness and are now getting ready for the ominous-sounding fifth wave. We don’t know what this is exactly, but it doesn’t sound good. It is up to Chloe Grace Moretz (Carrie, Let Me In) and a small band of American troops to save the planet and prevent humankind from extinction.
The film is based on the novel by Rick Yancey, who has written a trilogy. So, does that mean we’ll be getting some more alien action? I hope so. The trailer looks very intense and exciting, embodying a sense of paranoia that is reminiscent of classic films like Invasion of the Body Snatchers and The Thing. There’s sure to be plenty of action and tension, but the central story’s focus on reuniting family and the importance of hope ensures the film also appeals to those wanting an emotional core to their sci-fi – and a happy ending, I presume. Also, say goodbye to Tower Bridge. Sob.
Synopsis:
The thriller centers on 16-year-old Cassie (Moretz), who’s on the run after five waves of increasingly deadly attacks that have left most of Earth decimated. Against a backdrop of fear and distrust, Cassie is on the run, desperately trying to save her younger brother. As she prepares for the inevitable and lethal fifth wave, she meets a young man who may become her final hope.
Be sure to catch The 5th Wave when it lands on 15th January 2016 in the USA and 22nd January 2016 for those of us in the UK.
