It’s fair to say that we at Scream are pretty excited about Irish chiller Nails, which premieres at the Audi Dublin International Film Festival on February 20th ahead of a planned release later in the year. Having been teased with a few stills, we are now treated to this creepy first trailer.
Starring The Descent’s Shauna Macdonald and Comedian/actor Ross Noble (Stitches), Nails has been billed, promisingly, as being in the vein of The Babadook and Under the Shadow. It follows Macdonald’s track coach and mother Dana Milgrom, who survives a near-death car accident only to find herself paralyzed and trapped inside her own body. Confined to a hospital bed, she becomes convinced that a terrifying presence called ‘Nails’ exists inside the room with her. Her fears fall on deaf ears however, with doctors and even her own husband assuming she’s experiencing some kind of mental breakdown.
Writer/director Dennis Bartok – who wrote and produced 2006 horror anthology Trapped Ashes – makes his directorial debut with Nails, in which he also appears. Noble co-stars as Trevor Helms, a nurse’s aide at the hospital who slowly comes to believe that Dana’s paranoid visions may be real. Vikings’ Steve Wall and Cherry Tree’s Leah McNamara also star, with Richard Foster-King (It Never Sleeps) as the malevolent titular entity.
