For quite a while, we’ve been told that the upcoming sixth Scary Movie instalment will target the legacy sequel trend.
However, fans have been eager to know exactly what movies will be singled out for spoofing this time around.
Well, now we seemingly have our answer from producer Marlon Wayans. When asked directly in a recent interview what films the sixth instalment would target, Wayans said the following:
“I mean, you know, I’m just a fan of the whole genre. I Know What You Did Last Summer may have something in there. I think the Scream franchise is always a great one. I think Heretic was a wonderful film. Longlegs. Get Out. Nope. There are just so many great horror films to pull from that we plan on having a field day. Sinners.”
So, it looks like Scary Movie 6 will be taking the expected swipe at slasher legacy sequels, but also have modern and so-called elevated horror firmly in its sights too.
Scary Movie 6 will see the return of trio the Wayans Brothers as producers, as well as legacy cast members Anna Faris and Regina Hall. Faris and Hall will reprise their iconic roles of Cindy Campbell and Brenda Meeks for the first time since 2006’s Scary Movie 4. Original Scary Movie cast member Dave Sheridan has also been confirmed to reprise the role of bumbling cop Doofy Gilmore.
The sixth instalment will be directed by Michael Tiddes, from a script by Rick Alvarez.
Shooting is expected to begin next month, and Scary Movie 6 will hit theatres on June 12th 2026.
