Craig DiGregorio appears to be stepping down as the showrunner for the bloody, brilliant Ash vs. Evil Dead after season 2. His place is set to be filled by comic book writer Mark Verheiden who has his own ties to the Evil Dead franchise and Sam Raimi.
Verheiden wrote the screenplay for Sam Raimi’s 1994 sci-fi-action flick Timecop and has written a four issue comic adaptation of the original Evil Dead for Dark Horse Comics, so has worked with Raimi and Bruce Campbell AKA Ash before. When speaking about his involvement in the next season of Ash vs. Evil Dead, Verheiden said:
“I’m not only familiar with the Evil Dead universe, it’s one that I love and I’ve had a long relationship with many of the principals involved. It was a great fit when the job as showrunner opened up.”
Since then, he has worked as a producer and writer on other popular TV shows such as Daredevil, Hemlock Grove and Falling Skies. Not only is he a trusted fan of Evil Dead, Verheiden is familiar with the TV format and the more fantastical genres that have found their home there. He seems like a great choice to us, what do you think?
Ash vs. Evil Dead season 3 will probably hit screens in the autumn of 2017. For now, enjoy what’s left of the gripping second season.
