Maggie Gyllenhaal’s remake of 1935’s classic The Bride of Frankenstein becomes the latest horror release to move to a packed 2025 slate, with its brand-new release date.
Originally set to debut on October 3rd 2024, the project has now moved back almost an entire year to September 25th 2025.
No reason was given for the abrupt change, but considering the lack of updates we’ve had, it’s likely the movie just needs more time to come together.
The Bride! is the latest in a long line of films reinventing the famed “Monster-verse” from the golden age of Hollywood. It will join the likes of The Invisible Man, Renfield and 2025’s Wolf Man in their attempts to give the classic tales a modern slant.
The movie is described as follows:
“A lonely Frankenstein travels to 1930s Chicago to seek the aid of a Dr. Euphronius in creating a companion for himself. The two reinvigorate a murdered young woman and the Bride is born. She is beyond what either of them intended, igniting a combustible romance, the attention of the police and a wild and radical social movement.”
It is speculated that the released synopsis above contains a gaffe, and that it is Frankenstein’s monster that somehow ends up in Chicago seeking a mate.
The Bride! will star Christian Bale as “The Monster,” and Jessie Buckley in the title role. Jake Gyllenhaal, Penelope Cruz, Peter Sarsgaard, and Annette Benning will co-star.
Given the new release date of September 25 2025 being so far away, we don’t expect any further updates for some time. However, we’ll keep our ear to the ground for anymore nuggets about The Bride!
