Mads Mikkelsen, the star of NBC’s Hannibal, is in early talks to secure a role in the upcoming Doctor Strange film. Directed by Scott Derrikson (The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Sinister, Deliver Us From Evil), Doctor Strange stars Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role, with Tilda Swinton and Chiwetel Ejiofor as co-stars.
It is unsure what role Mikkelsen will play, but it is expected that we will be the antagonist to Doctor Stephen Strange. Marvel has been keen for Mikkelsen to join the comic book universe and he was previously tipped to play Malekith in Thor: The Dark World, but had to opt out when he scored the lead in Hannibal – a good choice, if I may say so.
Doctor Strange will follow an ex-surgeon who is trained by a sorcerer to protect the world from evil. The film is set to begin production at the end of the year, with a release date slated for 28th October 2016 in the UK and 4th November 2016 in the USA.
