Blumhouse are set to create their first expanded Universe, and their chosen world is that of 2023’s runaway hit, M3GAN.

Described as being set in the same world, SOULM8TE will similarly focus on an android gone awry, and will see release in 2026.

The spin-off is described as a “dark romance” with comedy elements, and will be directed by Kate Dolan, who also delivered a pass on the script.

SOULM8TE will follow a grieving husband who turns to artificial intelligence in his search for companionship. However, his chosen companion takes their role as life-partner very seriously, and will do anything to maintain their bond as soulmates.

The project will be produced by Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, the team behind M3GAN and its upcoming sequel.

Of the project, chosen director Kate Dolen said the following:
“Fundamentally, I view this film as an exploration of relationships and loneliness. Despite technological advances, there are enduring human truths we cannot escape, and I am looking forward to delving into those depths.”

In the same statement, producer James Wan noted:
“SOULM8TE is a thrilling and seductive addition to the M3GAN universe. We’re excited to partner with Kate to bring this story to life with her unique cinematic vision and point of view.”

SOULM8TE is currently set for an unspecified 2025 release date.
