Quite recently, we learned that Blumhouse’s 2022’s hit M3GAN was set to expand, with SOULM8TE, an equally dark android tale set in the same universe.
Kate Dolan will direct the project, which will come from a script she co-wrote with Rafael Jordan. Telling the story of a lonely widower acquiring a seemingly harmless A.I. bot for company, we will soon learn she takes her relationship commitments very seriously.
Tapped to be much more risqué than M3GAN, the film will mirror dark domestic thrillers such as Fatal Attraction, Pacific Heights, and The Hand That Rocks the Cradle.
Excitingly, we now have our first cast announcements for the project, including one genre fans will be very happy with.
Evil Dead Rise star Lily Sullivan is set to take on the role of the titular android, marking her much-anticipated return to the genre. Sullivan won a slew of fans with her performance as Beth in Lee Cronin’s hugely successful zombie sequel, many calling her the “ultimate Final Girl.” We’re intrigued to see how she’ll perform as a villain.
Joining Sullivan is David Rysdahl, best known for his turns in TV’s Fargo, and 2023’s Oscar winning Oppenheimer. Tapped to play SOULMA8TE’S widowed co-lead, Rysdahl will also soon be seen in the FX television spin-off Alien: Earth.
So, things seem to be moving along nicely for this spin-off, and with M3GAN 2.0 expected next summer, it looks like we have plenty more deadly android adventures ahead.
