A sequel to Blumhouse’s smash-hit tech-horror film M3GAN is already slated to hit cinemas in 2025, but we won’t have to wait that long to see more from the killer doll. As M3GAN herself wrote on Twitter: “u watched the censored version the suits put in theaters, now watch what rly happened in the unrated cut.”
Okay, bestie.
The Unrated Cut of M3GAN is coming to streaming platform Peacock and digital outlets on February 24th. The Blu-Ray and DVD, releasing on March 21st, will also include both the Theatrical Version and the Unrated Edition.
Writer Akela Cooper teased the original “way gorier” R-rated version in the Los Angeles Times last month, noting that “once the trailer went viral, teenagers got involved and you want them to be able to see it,” leading to the PG-13 rating. Cooper also revealed that M3GAN’s body count was significantly higher in the script, which she described as “merciless.”
Gerard Johnstone (Housebound) directed M3GAN from Cooper’s script, based on a story by Cooper and James Wan. The film starred Allison Williams as Gemma, a brilliant roboticist working at a toy company who suddenly becomes the caretaker of her orphaned 8-year-old niece, Cady (Violet McGraw). Struggling to connect with Cady, Gemma pairs the young girl with M3GAN, an AI doll prototype designed to be a child’s greatest companion and a parent’s greatest ally…. a decision that has unimaginable consequences.
