The old saying goes, “if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it.”
Well, evidently Blumhouse have decided to stick by that reliable advice, as we learn the official rating for M3GAN 2.0.
Like the wildly successful original, M3GAN 2.0 has received a PG-13 rating from the MPA.
However, whilst the 2023 original earned that rating primarily due to harsh language and the odd splash of gore, it appears the sequel is going harder.
According to the official rating description, M3GAN 2.0 is pushing the PG-13 boundaries with:
“Strong violent content, bloody images, some strong language, sexual material, and brief drug references.”
That sounds like a fun time, indeed!
M3GAN 2.0 sees the titular android given a “killer” upgrade to take on Amelia, a seemingly unstoppable assassin made from M3GAN’s program.
Original director Gerard Johnstone returns, alongside writer Akela Cooper. Jason Blum and James Wan produce, through the merger of Blumhouse Productions and Atomic Monster.
The sequel also sees the return of original cast members Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, Brian Jordan Alvarez, Jen Van Epps, Amie Donald, and Jenna Davis. New cast members include Ivanna Sakhno, Aristotle Athari, Timm Sharp, and Jemaine Clement.
M3GAN 2.0 will release on June 27th via Universal Pictures, and you can get re-acquainted with the final trailer below:
