An unexpected but very welcome success for the horror world, 2022’s Smile scared up over $200 million at the worldwide box-office. With such an impressive return, Paramount Pictures announced a sequel quite soon afterward.
Since then, we have gotten titbits of information, primarily cast updates, and a Halloween 2024 release date. While that’s all exciting, now we have perhaps the one update that’ll get fans really excited. Lukas Gage has confirmed filming on the sequel has wrapped!
Speaking at the South by Southwest premiere of his latest film, a remake of 1985’s Roadhouse, Gage said the following:
“I just wrapped. We finished in upstate New York. It’s gonna be really good. I’m really excited for everyone to see that one. Doing a lot of sequels, it feels like, this year. The year of the sequel. I hope you like it. Parker Finn, the director of that, it was crazy how much he knows this genre of movies and how he was able to recreate it and make it fresh. It was such a cool formula to follow. How did nobody think to do that creepy smile face? My smile face is so good.“
Has The White Lotus star said too much by admitting he had to perform the “smile face?” We’ll have to wait and see…
Set to be released on October 18th 2024, the sequel will see Kyle Gallner return to the role of Joel, alongside Gage, Rosemarie DeWitt, and Nami Scott.
Hoping to mirror the success of the original, Smile 2 could potentially be one of the biggest horror hits of the year.
Hopefully we’ll get some promo material soon!
