Love At First Fright!
12 years ago, the notion of starting a horror dating site was summoned. I have been a horror fan all my life. The beginning was my first scare with the movie Trilogy of Terror! So many others followed. In 1978, the movie Halloween struck me, and I was hooked. As I got older and started dating, I was surprised that my fondness for suspense and horror movies was not always shared with possible dating partners. Especially in times of online dating sites, after matching and chatting online first, despite sharing openly my likes and hobbies of horror online, this did not always translate to in person compatibility. Often it seemed individuals on generic dating sites did not appreciate what being a true horror fan is! As an example of one such experience, a first in person date ended due to my date’s apparent dislike of my passion for horror, and her stated disapproval of my Halloween, jack-o-lantern, and bat tattoos. After this, I found myself sitting there dateless and started to ponder, and I conjured up an idea for a dating site for horror fans.
Thus, the Horror Couples origin story.
And beyond dating, I noted after attending several horror conventions, I often met individuals who were attending alone for various reasons. Standing in lines to meet my favorite horror actors, I would talk with some of these solo convention attendees who shared their support of including on the site an opportunity to meet and network with other like-minded people to attend events with.
