Following the huge success of 1987’s Fatal Attraction, psychological thrillers were seemingly inescapable in the early 1990s.
From Basic Instinct to Single White Female or Pacific Heights, there seemed to be no end to the slow-burn thrills.
One of the most prolific psychological thrillers to come from this brief cinematic craze was 1992’s chilling The Hand that Rocks the Cradle.
Directed by Curtis Hanson and starring Rebecca De Mornay, the film follows a young woman desperate for revenge against the woman she blames for the death of her husband and the loss of her baby. To do this, she poses as the family’s new nanny, and begins to slowly tear the loving unit apart.
Now, word reaches us that a remake of this classic thriller is in the works from 20th Century Studios. Furthermore, in news that will undoubtedly excite genre fans, Longlegs and It Follows actress Maika Monroe is set to star.
Michelle Garza Cervera will direct the remake, after gaining genre attention with last year’s Huesera: The Bone Woman. Additionally, writer Micah Bloomberg is tasked with adapting the original script for a modern audience.
Currently, The Hand that Rocks the Cradle doesn’t have a release date, or any further names attached. However, we’ll let you know as soon as that changes.
