Mike Flanagan’s reboot of The Exorcist continues to be one of the most sought-after projects in Hollywood. Despite the series’ patchy history at the box-office, several high-profile names have joined the cast.
The latest actor to join the quickly growing cast is The Matrix star Laurence Fishburne in an undisclosed role. His role in The Exorcist will mark Fishburne’s return to the horror genre, following previous turns in 2011’s Contagion, 2010’s Predators, 1997’s Event Horizon, and 1987’s A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors.
Fishburne becomes the fourth Academy Award nominee to join the cast of Flanagan’s Exorcist reboot, following Scarlett Johansson, Diane Lane, and Chiwetel Ejiofor
Whilst plot details remain unknown, Flanagan recently shed light on the project, saying:
“This is an opportunity to do something that I believe has never been done within the franchise — something that honours what came before it but isn’t built on nostalgia. I really just saw an opportunity to make the scariest movie I’ve ever made. I know expectations are high. No one’s more intimidated than I am.”
Flanagan is handling script duties as well as serving as director and executive producer.
Blumhouse and Morgan Creek will co-produce the reboot alongside Flanagan, with the movie set to hit screens on March 12th 2027.
Principal photography is expected to begin soon in New York City, so stay tuned for more updates!
