New Orleans’ infamous LaLaurie Mansion is the inspiration for a new horror franchise from Chad and Carey Hayes, the writers of The Conjuring.
Said to be one of the most haunted houses in the world, The LaLaurie Mansion was once home to Madame Delphine LaLaurie, a socialite who tortured and killed slaves within the property. It was only after an enslaved person set fire to the building that the authorities discovered the horrific secrets hidden within—especially on the third floor, from which people rarely returned.
The Hayes’ new horror franchise will explore the house’s dark history from its origins right up to modern day. It will also extensively detail Madame LaLaurie, who fled the city after the fire and was never seen again.
Though The LaLaurie Mansion has not been open to the public since 1932, the Hayes Brothers are considering writing the first draft inside the house. Some parts of the films may also be shot on-site.
Principal photography will begin in 2020.
