Back in February, we were excited to report from a reliable source that Crystal Lake had taken a major step forward.
Scooby Doo and Dead to Me star Linda Cardellini was said to have entered negotiations to star in the Friday the 13th prequel series.
Now, we can confirm that Cardellini has closed her deal, and will lead Crystal Lake as Pamela Voorhees.
A role originated by legendary actress Betsy Palmer; Pamela is the doting mother to horror icon Jason Voorhees. Originally thought to have drowned in 1957, Pamela Voorhees made it her mission to avenge her son’s demise, sabotaging Camp Crystal Lake.
In the series lore, we pick up with the character in 1980, as she prepares to slaughter a group of would-be councillors.
A24 and Peacock’s series will follow the character as she navigates an unexpected pregnancy, and her life caring for her disabled offspring. It is currently unknown if Jason Voorhees as we know and love him will appear, but Cardellini seems to have plenty to work with as she undertakes the role of his beloved mother.
Black Sails showrunner Brad Caleb Kane will oversee Crystal Lake. With Cardellini on board, the show seems to finally be moving in the right direction, after a series of setbacks.
Originally, Hannibal’s Bryan Fuller was at the helm, with Scream creator Kevin Williamson aboard to pen an episode. However, after disagreeing on the show’s direction, Fuller and Williamson departed as A24 retooled the project.
Now with a major star attached, fans are hopeful that this means Crystal Lake is finally out of the woods.
