After 2019’s Joker defied critics and managed a total box-office haul of almost $1.1 billion, there was little doubt the dark reboot would continue.
With the announcement that pop star Lady Gaga would join the sequel and take on the role of Harley Quinn, excitement for Joker: Folie à Deux reached a fever pitch.
Now fans have gotten their first look at Gaga’s turn in the iconic role this past week as it was announced that the project has wrapped filming.
Glaring into the camera with smeared make-up and an unsettled look in her eye, Gaga’s Quinn appears notably more subdued than the previous embodiment by actress Margo Robbie.
Given that this is likely a retooling of the character’s origin and first entanglement with Joaquin Pheonix’s Arthur Fleck, the more reserved look is expected. Behind-the-scenes photos also show Gaga looking decidedly more unhinged as she recreates Pheonix’s iconic dance on Gotham City’s stone steps.
It is hoped that Joker: Folie à Deux will further expand Gaga’s range as an actress and cement her as one of Hollywood’s most in-demand. The singer made quite the debut as a leading actress with an Oscar nominated turn in the 2018 re-tooling of A Star is Born.
Exact plot details for Joker: Folie à Deux are being kept under wraps, as is much of the casting. Warner Bros. are set to release the film on October 4th 2024, we’ll keep an eye out for any further developments.
