In what is perhaps the most promising update yet for the I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel, actress Jennifer Love Hewitt has dropped a major hint as to her involvement.
For a year now, the rumours have persisted that Hewitt and co-star Freddie Prinze Jr had been “approached” to head a Scream-style legacy sequel.
Although Prinze Jr shot down the rumours, the project has continued to develop steadily, particularly over the last 6 months. Filmmaker and actress Leah McKendrick has been open about the script she is “still tweaking,” with Sony reportedly making the project a priority.
Now, we apparently have confirmation from Jennifer Love Hewitt that she is actively being sought for the film. Speaking at the season premiere of her hit show 9-1-1, Hewitt dropped a tantalising soundbite when asked about the project. When asked directly if she could confirm Julie James’ return, the actress stated:
“I can’t confirm, but I won’t deny… How about that?”
When pressed for any further titbits, Hewitt clarified that she hadn’t yet seen the script, but very much hoped to play her age:
“Here’s the truth, I don’t actually know what they’re doing because I haven’t seen a script yet. I know it’ll be lots of screaming and running around, and hopefully the tops will be a little bigger. She’s old, I’ll tell you that much, she’s 45… But hopefully she can still kick ass.”
Hewitt’s words are another shot-in-the-arm to a project that keeps gaining more and more momentum. Previously, McKendrick has stated that Julie James is “key” to the story, so hopefully we’ll have a triumphant return to the big screen for another nineties slasher favourite very soon.
Watch this space!
