André Øvredal (The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark) is set to direct The Last Voyage of the Demeter, a new horror film that centres around the “Captain’s Log” chapter from Bram Stoker’s iconic 1897 horror novel Dracula. And it seems the film has found its Dracula in the form of Javier Botet (It, Crimson Peak, REC)!
Other new additions to the cast include David Dastmalchian (The Belko Experiment) as first mate Wojchek, Liam Cunningham (Dog Soldiers) as the ship’s stately captain, and Aisling Franciosi (The Nightingale) as Anna, a stowaway. They join the previously announced Corey Hawkins (The Walking Dead), along with Jon Jon Briones (Ratched) as the ship’s cook, and Stefan Kapicic (Deadpool) and Nikolai Nikolaeff (Daredevil) as some of the ship’s ill-fated crew members.
The Last Voyager of the Demeter was originally written by Bragi Schut (Escape Room), with the most recent version of the script penned by Zak Olkewicz (Fear Street Part Two: 1978). The chapter of Dracula it is based on tells the story of the Russian schooner, Demeter, which was chartered to carry private cargo from Carpathia to London. The cargo? Twenty-four unmarked wooden crates.
The movie will follow the strange events that befell the doomed schooner ahead of its arrival at Whitby Harbour. No trace of the crew was on board…
