Until its release next February, news regarding the adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower series will likely be coming in thick and fast. The latest piece of info around the project is that Jackie Earle Haley is deep into negotiations to join the cast. The actor – whose role as a re-imagined Freddy Krueger in 2010 represents a blip on an otherwise pretty strong genre CV – will co-star alongside Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey, playing The Gunslinger Roland Deschain and the Man in Black respectively.
Haley is set to play Sayre, described by Deadline as “a menacing humanoid who is the vampire leader and kowtows to no one.”
Before we see him in The Dark Tower, Haley will star as Odin Quincannon in AMC’s upcoming TV adaptation of Preacher, another horror/western hybrid. He has also recently been confirmed to play super-villain The Terror, in Amazon’s upcoming revival of The Tick, based on Ben Edlund’s cult comic series.
Directed by Nikolaj Arcel and produced by Akiva Goldman, Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, and Erica Hughes, The Dark Tower is scheduled for release on February 17th, 2017 in the UK and US.
