It – Welcome to Derry was a significant gamble for Warner Bros. and HBO.
With the theatrical movies being such enormous successes, taking the story of Derry and Pennywise to television was a risk.
However, the series became a substantial success for HBO, particularly its streaming service HBO Max. The premiere episode garnered the third highest numbers in the service’s history, with the finale becoming its highest rated content ever.
So, fans are asking, where is the second season of the popular prequel show? Producers Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti confirmed that two more seasons were planned, set in the 1930s and the 1900s respectively. However, we still haven’t had the announcement of a season two renewal. Now, the Muschietti’s have spoken out on the delay.
Barbara sought assure fans, saying:
“It is going to be official. We’re all working towards it. We are working, the studio is working. It’s just that we want to make it real, and we need the material.”
Andy backs up his wife’s words, asserting that:
“Sometimes the announcements come a little delayed because of deals and stuff. I don’t want to get too granular about it, but there’s a general intention to make it happen.”
Barbara Muschietti concluded:
“A lot of times, the announcements are the studio having to declare their confidence for the show. We don’t need that because clearly, we’re good. So, when we do the green light, it’s a real green light. It’s not just like, ‘Okay, well, we’ll try to put this out so people watch the show.’ People have watched the show. It’s good.”
So, a second season of It – Welcome to Derry is still very much on the cards, but we’ll just have to be patient.
