Is Chucky’s television reign coming to an end?
With the third season ending on quite the cliffhanger, fans have been very open on social media about their need for more. The finale saw the return of Tiffany Valentine in doll form, Chucky renewing his wedding vows to her, and our three leads becoming dolls themselves. Ending with Fiona Dourif’s Nica Pierce being held at gunpoint, the fanbase was left salivating.
However, a promotional gimmick following the finale’s airing has audiences worried… A hotline number was issued for viewers to call and speak directly to the killer doll himself.
When dialled, the number revealed that the caller had just pledged their support for Chucky’s renewal. Brad Dourif is heard saying he wishes to extend Chucky’s “time in office” to a fourth term, but needs our help.
Fans have since speculated that this marketing ploy means the series is in trouble. These concerns grew further, following social media posts from the Child’s Play series’ cast and creator. Alumni including Don Mancini, Jennifer Tilly, Alex Vincent, Christine Elise, Fiona Dourif, Zackary Arthur, and Jackson Kelly have included the hashtag “#RenewChucky” on most recent posts.
With cast and crew seemingly campaigning, does this mean that USA and SyFy are planning to nix Chucky? Series stars didn’t mount a renewal campaign on any of the previous seasons, so it seems a logical conclusion, no?
So, will we see a cancellation announcement for Chucky in the coming weeks? Whilst we really hope this isn’t the case, things aren’t looking hopeful.
