Back in July 2024, IFC and Shudder announced a sequel to their surprise hit slasher In a Violent Nature. During that year’s San Diego Comic-Con, the movie’s now-iconic villain Johnny appeared on-stage to accompany the announcement.
Since then, updates on Chris Nash’s sequel have been hard to come by. Aside from a brief update from star Ry Barrett last fall, nothing else has surfaced.
Until now…
It has been confirmed by multiple sources that In a Violent Nature 2 will begin production this September in Vancouver, Canada.
Whilst plot details remain unclear, star Ry Barrett is expected to return as Johnny.
2024’s In a Violent Nature gained critical praise for tipping the traditional slasher movie formula on its head. Told from the killer’s perspective, the film made use of ambient sound, natural lighting, and contained no musical score.
Currently IFC and Shudder’s third highest grossing film, In a Violent Nature follows supernatural killer Johnny. The stuff of local legend, Johnny once committed a woodland massacre, before being laid to rest beneath an old fire tower. Johnny’s beloved mother’s locket rests over his grave site, said to keep him at peace. However, when a group of teens take the locket, Johnny rises to reclaim his prized possession.
Speaking about the sequel last year, star Ry Barrett said:
“A sequel has been green-lit. I’m just sitting back to wait for the script because that’s the first most important part and [Chris] Nash is working on that right now. So, we’re just going to sit back and wait to find out what crazy new shit that he’s going to have everybody doing. So, we’re just excited that it’s gonna happen.”
