Modern horror maestro Mike Flanagan continues his streak of reinventing classic ghost tales for the modern age. This time, Flanagan tackles the mighty Edgar Allen Poe, with an episodic adaption of The Fall of The House of Usher for Netflix.
Once again, just as he has done with The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor, Flanagan is putting his own spin on the tale, incorporating “various aspects” of multiple works by Poe… We wouldn’t expect any less.
We now have our first look at the series, with a plethora of new images and a stunning teaser poster for you to check out. Furthermore, Netflix has confirmed that the series will premiere just in time for the Halloween season, debuting on October 12 2023.
“In this wicked 8-episode limited series based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe, ruthless siblings Roderick and Madeline Usher have built Fortunato Pharmaceuticals into an empire of wealth, privilege, and power. But past secrets come to light when the heirs to the Usher dynasty start dying at the hands of a mysterious woman from their youth.”
To tackle this new tale, Flanagan as usual brings with him a plethora of actors he’s used in the past. This extensive list includes the likes of Carla Gugino, Henry Thomas, Bruce Greenwood, T’Nia Miller, Zack Gilford, Kate Siegel, and Robert Longstreet.
About the project, Cara Gugino had this to say when reached for comment whilst filming:
“It’s batshit crazy in the best possible way. It has quite a lot of very dark humor, but also really touches the soul.”
The Fall of the House of Usher marks Flanagan’s fifth television collaboration with Netflix, each one preceding it both critically and commercially lauded. Will his Poe adaption meet with the same amount of praise? You can find out for yourself when the series premieres October 12th!
