Directed by Alexandre O. Philippe (The Life and Times of Paul the Octopus, Doc of the Dead) 78/52 is a documentary that looks into the infamous shower scene from Alfred Hitchcock’s horror masterpiece Psycho. The title refers the 78 setups and 52 cuts that were used to help craft the classic killing scene.
IFC Midnight has now acquired the US distribution rights to the film, which recently screened at Sundance Film Festival and has been praised for its array of interviews and overall wealth of material. Those being interviewed include Guillermo del Toro, Karyn Kusama, Jamie lee Curtis and Danny Elfman, so there is a great variety of film-makers and actors.
Synopsis:
An unprecedented look at the iconic shower scene in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho, the ‘man behind the curtain’, and the screen murder that profoundly changed the course of world cinema.
It’s fascinating that there is a full documentary on one scene, but it has become so iconic that it will be interesting to delve into what helped craft a moment that has now gone down in history as one of the greatest horror moments of all time.
