Last we reported on Ben Leonberg’s indie horror Good Boy; the film’s trailer was receiving considerable attention online.
Shifting the traditional horror movie perspective, Good Boy tells of a family moving into a haunted house. Although that sounds like standard horror fodder, Good Boy concentrates on what the situation looks like from the family dog’s perspective. Loveable and loyal pooch Indy immediately knows something isn’t quite right with his new home, and desperately tries to warn his owners. As events worsen, it’s up to Indy to save his beloved family from sinister forces.
The concept alone had drummed up considerable interest. However, the first trailer has changed everything, and Good Boy is about to chase even greater highs.
After going viral with over 2.5 million views in it’s first week, IFC and Shudder have decided to take advantage of the unexpected popularity, issuing the film with a wide theatrical release.
Initially, the film’s October 3 opening was only supposed to be in a limited capacity, with a streaming release expected shortly after.
However, given the virility of the trailer, and the universal love for Indy, Good Boy will be debuting on a considerably larger number of screens.
The exact number is not yet known, but a reliable source tells us IFC is aiming for a release akin to this year’s slasher Clown in a Cornfield. Impressive indeed!
Never underestimate the marketing prowess of an adorable doggo, folks. Given the huge popularity for Indy already, Good Boy could well be IFC and Shudder’s biggest theatrical hit to date. We shall see!
Come October 3rd, check your local listings to see if Indy will be on a screen near you.
