Idris Elba is in talks to star in MGM’s upcoming sci-fi-thriller Deeper. From director Baltasar Kormakur (Everest, Adrift) the film has been compared to The Martian and Gravity, so will surely be Oscar-nominated? Kornel Mundruczo was originally hired to direct the film starring Bradley Cooper and Gal Gadot, but that fell through in 2016.
The story follows a disgraced astronaut who is confronted by a dangerous forced when exploring a newly-discovered trench. If all goes well, Elba will be in the leading role. Perhaps most known for his role in the BBC hit drama Luther, Elba has also starred in Prometheus, The Dark Tower and Molly’s Game.
Kormakur will direct script written by Max Landis (Chronicle, Bright) who, according to IMDb, wrote the first draft in under 6 hours. Take that as you will.
More as it comes!
