With filming allegedly underway in New Zealand, Sony’s I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot continues to gain hype. With four new actors added to the cast roster, one in particular has grabbed the attention of genre fans.
Nicholas Alexander Chavez, currently receiving a plethora of critical praise for portraying Lyle Menendez, has been announced to join the slasher film. Of course, this is perfect timing for both the young actor and the production, as both can capitalise on the success of Netflix’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. Hopefully Chavez’s rapidly growing fanbase will book themselves tickets to Last Summer, securing a healthy return.
Next, we have a prolific television actor, also with considerable horror cache, in Austin Nichols. Nichols is undoubtedly best known for a three-season stint as Spencer Monroe on AMC’s The Walking Dead. Viewers of Ray Donovan will also recognize Nichols, with the actor having recurred on four seasons of the hit show.
Lola Tung, the breakout star of Netflix’s The Summer I Turned Pretty has also joined the cast, making her feature film debut with the slasher sequel. Finally, model, actress, and musician Gabbriette will also make her debut on the big screen in Last Summer.
The new additions join an already established line-up featuring Jonah Hauer-King, Chase Sui Wonders, Billy Campbell, Madelyn Cline, and Tariq Withers.
Legacy star Freddie Prinze Jr will also reprise his role as Ray Bronson, last seen in 1998’s I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. His on-screen love interest and franchise lead Jennifer Love Hewitt is said to be “in negotiations” to return, but is yet to be confirmed.
Directed by Do Revenge filmmaker Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, the sequel comes from an initial draft by actress and filmmaker Leah McKendrick. Robinson then rewrote the script with Sam Lansky.
Plot details are currently being kept under wraps, but we expect that will change soon.
I Know What You Did Last Summer will release July 18th 2025 via Sony and Columbia Pictures, keep your eyes peeled for further updates.
