“HOSTEL” TV SERIES IN THE WORKS FROM ELI ROTH

Posted on: June 19th, 2024

Last fall, whilst on the promotional trail for his hit slasher movie Thanksgiving, filmmaker Eli Roth floated the idea that there was still “more to come” from his 2005 hit Hostel.

Now, that appears to be coming to fruition, with the announcement of a new TV series in the works.

The 2005 original followed a group of teens as they vacationed in Prague. Their trip takes a violent turn when they are subjected to horrific torture, uncovering their hostel accommodation is a front to lure in victims for the perverse pleasure of others.

Roth returned to direct the 2007 sequel, but its moderate success led the series direct-to-video. Since 2011’s Hostel III, there has been no movement on further entries, until now.

Fifth Season are set to produce the new Hostel series, which is described as a “modern” and “elevated” take on the original formula. Roth is set to direct each episode, as well as write and produce alongside Chris Briggs and Mike Fleiss.

Prolific character actor Paul Giamatti has reportedly signed on to star in an undisclosed role. Emmy Award-winner Giamatti and Roth have sought to work together for the past 20 years; thus, Hostel will fulfil a long-held wish for both.

Currently, the Hostel series is without network backing. However, given all the talent involved at this early stage, we doubt this will be the case for long.

Given Roth’s commitments to Borderlands this year, and Thanksgiving 2 next year, it may be some time before we see Hostel on the small screen. However, we’ll keep a close eye out, and report any further developments.
