Brian Taylor (Crank) is set to direct Hellboy: The Crooked Man for Millennium Media—and by the sounds of it, this might be the most horror-centric Hellboy film to date!
Speaking with Collider recently, the director noted that he “pitched an R-rated folk horror movie” and that Millennium have been “nothing but supportive… they love horror.”
Taylor went on to say that “this original material is dark and scary and violent and adult. So in order to really embrace that, we just don’t wanna have any handcuffs on.” Sign us up!
In Hellboy: The Crooked Man, which is based on the Hellboy mini-series of the same name from 2008, “Hellboy and a rookie BPRD agent stranded in 1950s rural Appalachia. There, they discover a small community haunted by witches, led by a local devil with a troubling connection to Hellboy’s past: the Crooked Man.”
The script for the reboot film was written by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden. Production is slated to begin in Bulgaria this month, with Deadline reporting that “conversations with cast are in late stages.” We’ll bring you more news as we hear it!
